3 women, minor girl killed as coal mine caves in in Betul

The temptation of getting coal free from closed coal mine in Pathakheda of Betul proved fatal to at least three women and one girl as mine caved in, claiming their precious life on Sunday. One more woman was injured in the incident and she is battling for life in hospital. All victims hail from Shobapur area.

Talking to “The Hitavada”, Betul police said that three women and one girl died in coal mine collapse incident of Pathakheda. One more woman has been injured in this incident. When contacted, Pathakheda police station In-charge Nitin Pal told ‘The Hitavada’ that out of six coal mines in area, Satpura II coal mines is a closed coal mine. However, people residing near coal mine often used to take out coal for fuel purpose.
On Sunday also, four women and one girl had gone to closed coal mine to collect the coal. Unfortunately, coal mine caved in, trapping all of them. Four of them died instantly and one woman was injured. The injured woman had been admitted into hospital for treatment.

Betul police control room said that deceased include Sheelu, wife of Kemu (45), Meena Bai (32), Kumari Payal (11) and Nani Bai (30). Injured woman’s name is Sandhya. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has expressed grief over the incident and prayed for peace to souls of deceased.
