ANC arrests man with 513 gm brown sugar worth Rs 5.13 lakh

In a major haul of narcotics products, Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Nagpur Police arrested a man and seized brown sugar weighing 513 grams worth Rs 5.13 lakh from his possession. The value of the contraband substance in international black market is believed to be over Rs 25 lakh. The substance was brought by the accused from Jammu and Kashmir, said police.


The accused is identified as Govardhansingh Motisingh Thakur (38), a resident of Jat Ka Kheda village in Suwasara tehsil of Mansar district in Madhya Pradesh.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Anti-Narcotics Cell had fielded its staff right from Mansar to keep watch on the man. Thakur boarded a bus at Mansar and arrived in Nagpur on Sunday evening. A team of Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested the accused at MP bus stand and took him to office.


Sources informed that a businessman from Nagpur had ordered the brown sugar to be distributed in city hotels and hookah parlours. Thakur had brought the stock from Jammu and Kashmir. Police have also seized a mobile phone from his possession.


Thakur, who is allegedly in the business for last many years, on arrest, claimed that he was paid Rs 5,000 by a person to take the packet from Mansar to Nagpur.
Police have contacted their Mansar counterparts and informed about the arrest.


Police will produce Thakur in the court on Monday for his custodial remand. Thakur has been booked under Sections 21 8(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).


Under guidance of DCP Detection Sambhaji Kadam, the arrest was made by Sr. Police Inspector (ANC) Rajendra Nikam, PSI S B Wagh and staff including Datta Bagul, Pravin Fandade, Vithoba Kale, Tulsidas Shukla, Kishor Mahant, Satish Patil, Nitin Salunke, Rubina Sheikh and others.
