Drug peddler held with smack worth Rs 15 lakh

IN A major breakthrough, Kotwali police succeeded in apprehending a drug peddler and seized a consignment of 140 grams smack worth Rs 15 lakh in the international market. The accused has been identified as Rajat Sonkar (23), son of late Dinesh Sonkar, a resident of Khatik Mohalla in Ghamapur. CSP, Kotwali, Sitaram Yadav disclosed this while addressing a press conference, on Sunday.

Under the direction of SP Shashikant Shukla, police started a rigorous campaign against illegal trade and transportation of narcotic substances under supervision of Additional SP (City) Guru Prasad Parashar and CSP, Kotwali, Sitaram Yadav.
Continuing the campaign, police received information about a suspected man involved in peddling of narcotic substances who was sighted near Gopal Market in Gopal Vihar area. Acting promptly on the information, police started a rigorous search and found the suspected man.

Witnessing cops, miscreant tried to escape from the spot but alert cops managed to catch him. During search, police team recovered polythene filled with smack weighing around 140 grams worth Rs 15 lakh. The accused was arrested with active efforts of police team led by SHO of Kotwali police station R K Malviya comprising SI Anil Patel, ASI Santram Bagri, constables Ajay Sonkar, Ramlal and Pankaj Sanodia.
