Young farmer Asharam Netam sets good example for other farmers

A young farmer Asharam Netam, who is an agriculture graduate, has shown the way of prosperity to other farmers in Kanker district. The farmer availed the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kanker, which comes under Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV), Raipur. This farmer has increased income from Rs 1.5 lakh to round about Rs 10 lakh per year by adopting integrated farming model.

Keeping in view the achievements of Asharam in the field of agriculture, Chhattisgarh government has honoured him with ‘Krishak Samriddhi Samman’ and IGKV has accorded him farmer fellowship. The success story is that this youth after graduation in agriculture began helping his father in agriculture on paternal six acres land. They grew paddy traditionally and also ran small scale dairy. Through all these activities, the earning was near about Rs 1.5 lakh per year.

In 2013-14, Asharam came in contact with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kanker and adopted the integrated farming model. As a result, he grows crops in both ‘Kharif’ and ‘Rabi’ seasons. Also by doing animal husbandry scientifically, he has increased the number of his cows by five to six times. Presently, this farmer family has 35 advanced breed animal, whose milk yielding capacity is much more. He has also built two ponds on one acre land in which he grows fish seed and fish round the year. He is providing employment to many persons on his field.
