Over 14,000 women trained as Social Auditors

An ambitious Training Programme to train 14,214 women Self Help Group members from all over Chhattisgarh to be Social Auditors concluded recently.
As per information the program was launched on October 2, 2017 by the Chhattisgarh Social Audit Unit (CGSAU), as per the Govt. of India’s decision to involve women SHG members in Social Audit all over the country, with a view to empower women in Chhattisgarh. The purpose was to involve women SHG members in the Social Audit process.

Meher Gadekar, Director of Social Audit unit said that “Chhattisgarh is the first State in India to complete the Training Program for the targeted SHG members.” The last round of Training Program was organized from 3 to 6 January, 2018 and with this a total of 14,435 women SHG members have been trained as Social Auditors. Funding for this programme has been routed through the National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRD & PR), which also closely monitored the programme. 4-day Training Programme included both theoretical inputs and practical sessions.

“The training programmes were conducted by a cadre of trained Master Trainers who had been selected from staff of CGSAU, and who were put through an intensive Training of Trainer’s programme”, informed Vinod Sahu, Training Coordinator, CGSAU. The 4-day Training Program included various topics like the Constitution of India, Introduction to Rights-based programs, RTI, MGNREGA/MGNREGS, Management Information System (MIS), Physical Verification, Technical aspects regarding Social Audits, Exit Conference etc. Besides films on various socially relevant topics were screened for the participants. In the mornings, a special session on Yoga, Physical fitness, Shramdaan were organised.

The trainees also made a visit nearby village and gave “test audits”. At the end of the Training Program, the trainees underwent an examination and only those who successfully cleared the exam were inducted as Social Auditors. It needs to be mentioned here that more than 97% of the trainees passed the exam by securing A/B/C grade, and are now certified as Social Auditors and also called Village Resource Persons (VRP).

The women SHG members were selected from 85 intensive blocks where State Rural Livelihood Mission is most active.
Guidance for the entire Training and Capacity building program was provided at Mantralaya-level by M K Raut, former ACS. The program was supported by P C Mishra, Secretary, P&RD Dept. and Deepak Soni, Managing Director, State Rural Livelihoods Mission. Besides, Devika Sharma, Social Development Specialist and Saurabh Sharma, Chitrank Bhardwaj, Malkhan Singh, Ms. Hemant Singh and Akash Sao (all Divisional Social Audit Managers of CGSAU), also played an important part in this entire exercise.
Currently more than 550 women SHG members are involved in conducting social audit of MGNREGS.

Over the next few months, the rest of the trained VRPs would be involved in conducting Social Audits in a phased manner.
