Raipur district recorded 8,037 criminal cases in 2017

YEAR 2017 was a challenging one for Raipur Police and taking into account the number of criminal cases registered in different police stations in the district, in all 8,037 cases were registered including 66 cases of murder, 197 cases of rape, 332 cases of cheating and other offences. Besides controlling crime, the police also discharged its social responsibilities.


Facts and figures related the criminal cases of last year and major achievements of Raipur Police were highlighted in a programme, which was addressed by Inspector General of Police, Raipur Range, Pradeep Gupta and Superintendent of Police, Raipur, Dr Sanjeev Shukla at Police Transit Mess on Monday. SP, Crime Ajatshatru Bahadur Singh and Additional SP, City, Vijay Agrawal were also present.


While briefing about the success stories, the IG highlighted CCTV cameras installed under the mission Secure City helped in solving several cases. The police have not been able to solve two murder cases, which are Bothra murder case and Chachaanpairi murder case, but worked hard. The cases of murder were comparatively less, the SP said. He also mentioned that so far in his life he considers the success with SBI, Mandhar case as the best. This case was registered in Vidhan Sabha police station.


As many as 332 cases of cheating were registered inclusive of more than 150 ATM and on-line cheating cases. Incidents of bank account holders being telephoned and cheated have been recorded successively in the capital city. Police ran a campaign and ‘Jan-Mitra’ meetings were organised in the jurisdictions of every police station The police officials focused on the year 2017 successes like solving blind murder cases, busting inter-state lifters’ gang, SIM Box case and the other cases. There are challenges in the current year also and the case of Rs 5-lakh loot from petrol pump in Arang, Rs 10-lakh lifting in Devendra Nagar are to be solved and the gang breaking window panes of cars and committing thefts remains to be cracked.


Police played significant role in uniting several families and in the last year 1599 cases of family disputes came to the police of which 750 cases were solved successfully and the concerned families are living happily. The police did the task of VIP protection and also tackled the protests of social and political organisations.
