2 held with illicit liquor

DISTRICT Crime Branch (DCB) sleuths caught two miscreants for illegally-stocking and transporting liquor. The action was taken under direction of Superintendent of Police H R Manhar on Saturday. As per police sources, the accused have been identified as 21-year-old Bhagirathi alias Chaklu Satnami, Jawahar Satnami of Limtara and Suraj Pandey (29), son of Rakesh Pandey of Mungeli.


It needs to be mentioned here that earlier the DCB and entire Station House Officers across the district were directed to keep strong vigil on the miscreants involved in illegal trade of liquor.  On Saturday, the DCB received a tip-off that two suspects  were transporting illegally-stocked liquor.  Acting upon the tip-off, the DCB swung into action and caught the accused by cordoning off Temri Chowk area. The miscreants were allegedly transporting liquor in two motorbikes.


The DCB sleuths, while frisking the vehicles, recovered as much as 50 quarters of plain country liquor and the same
quantity of ‘Mashala liquor’ worth Rs 7000. Both the bikes being used for the transportation of liquor were also impounded. After arrest, the case was handed over to Nandghat police for further action. The accused have been charged under relevant sections of the Excise Act. Further investigation is in progress. Inspector P P Awadhiya (In-Charge of DCB) Head Constable Arvind Sharma and other police personnel were part of the action.
