Ground breaking ceremony for renovation of three lanes out of six for JK Road in the city was held amidst political tussle on Saturday. JK Road known to be the first ideal road of the city has always been in controversy for its pathetic condition. This road is very important for commuters as it connects Ayodhya Bypass Road with Raisen Road.

The ward corporator of the area had arranged for Rs 60 lakhs in two installments to fill the potholes on this road. Yet, the officers of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) had not been able to award the work order to execute this work even when months had elapsed.

BMC is planning to repair only 9-metre width of the total 15-metre-wide and 1,400 metre-long road. Sources said it was evident that only parts of the road were being repaired just before the model code of conduct was declared in the state. They added that the initiative was politically motivated. BMC will be spending Rs 90 lakh to repair this road, while over Rs19 crore has already been spent on this road termed as an ideal road which currently has more than 80 pot holes, said sources. Mayor Alok Sharma announced over Rs19 lakh to repair the drains adjacent to JK Road.

Also, ground breaking ceremony was held constructing a 5.5 km long sewage line at a cost of Rs25 crore under the AMRUT scheme in Shahpura. A treatment plant with the capacity of 9.5 MLD will be established behind the Bansal Hospital.
