Orange expert Ramon Nevia on Vid tour

Ramon Nevia, an expert in cultivation of oranges, who is on three-day tour of Vidarbha on Sunday called on Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and held wide ranging discussion about revitalising the crop. Nevia expertise has helped in reviving orange cultivation in Spain, Egypt and in Middle East Asia.


Gadkari asked for solution to problem faced by oranges cultivated in Vidarbha, especially asking for usage of new technology to ensure the crop is free of phythoptera, increasing sweetness of the fruit. Similarly, the oranges should be a similar shape, increasing its shelf life and how to increase per acre output of the fruit. The visit of Nevia is arranged by MahaOrange, a well-known body of orange growers in Vidarbha.


The body got in touch with TradeCrop International, Spain, Dhanashree Agro Industries, Pune, Pragati Enterprises Pvt. Ltd, Amravati, and Shri Shivaji Agriculture College, Amravati, and jointly arranged the visit to the international citrus expert. During the interaction, Shreedhar Thakre, Rahul Thakre, Mahesh Damodare and Sudhir Jagtap were also present.

The first interactive session of Ramon Nevia was held at Dhiraj Junghare’s orchird at Katol. More than 250 orange growers from the nearby areas took active part in the interactive session, said Rahul Thakre, while talking to The Hitavada. “Farmers were delighted to meet Ramon Nevia. He is understanding farmers problems and through his presentation, explaining them the methods adopted in various countries.” On October 1, Nevia will be visiting orchird of Uddhavrao Futane at Tiwasa Ghat, Shendurjan Ghat, in Varud Tehsil. On October 2, he will be addressing at Shivaji Agricultural University Auditorium, Morshi Road, Amravati.
