Various programmes mark Wildlife Week celebrations

The week-long celebrations of Wildlife Week organised by Nova Nature Welfare Society in association with the Forest Department concluded with a two-day awareness camp at village Ondh of Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve in Kulhadi Ghat on October 7 and 8.

The beautiful Kulhadi Ghat valley is situated deep inside tiger reserve which is still facing shortage of development. No roads, no hospitals, no networks, no lights. As the sun sets, whole area gets cut from remaining world.

At such a place programmes like these are first of its type. Children from Ondh, Amamora, Kukrar villages attended the programme, took part in rallies and first time watched a movie (The Jungle Book) with the help of a projector. Programme started from Raipur where on October 2 society installed flexes and distributed leaflets at Marine drive and Pandri ranger hall.

Following this, on October 3, under directions from Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Uttam Gupta discussion on snakes and endangered animals organised with more than 500 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya with their mentors attended the programme. On October 4, Presentations on wildlife and conflicts organised at BIT, Durg with guest of honour Prem Kumar (CCF-Durg) and Dhamsheel Ganveer (DFO-Durg). Students from BIT and Kendriya Vidyalaya attended the meet and enjoyed. On October 5, Van Chetna Kendra manager Purendra Singh Rathore and our society under directions of Sundeep Balavan (SDO- Rajnandgaon) Rajnandgaon Forest Department organised drawing, painting, quiz, Singing, acting on wildlife in the presence of guest of honour Mohammad Shahid (DFO- Rajnandgaon,).

On October 6, similar programmes were organised at Jungle Safari, Atal Nagar and Maitri Garden, Bhilai.
This all possible with support from O P Yadav (Field Director, Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve), Rajesh Pandey (DFO-Gariyaband), directions from SDO Dhruv and management from Rameshwarlal Patel.
