19-year-old vehicle-lifter arrested

HABIBGANJ police nabbed a 19-year-old vehicle-lifter and recovered three scooters worth Rs 82,000 from his possession from near 12 number bus stop on Tuesday. According to police, acting on a tip-off, a boy who was on a scooter without a registration number was traced near 12 no stop and nabbed and when he was interrogated regarding the scooter he was not able to give details and documents of the vehicle.


Later, he confessed that the scooter was stolen from Bittan Market in September this year and in further investigation the accused confessed that he had stolen one more scooter earlier from Danish Nagar. The miscreant has been identified as Atul Verma, son of Suresh, who hails from Priyanka Nagar of Kolar area and recently lives in Meera Nagar slum area of Habibganj. Registration number of the scooter recovered from the accused was not clear and chassis number and engine number would be checked to find registration number of the scooter. The accused also stole a Honda Deo scooter earlier which was seized from his home.

The miscreant informed police that he used to target scooters from busy and crowded places and would remove their number plates to use them and the reason for stealing scooters was easily breakable locks. Details of earlier stolen and disposed vehicles will be investigated in further investigation. Police have registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC and started further investigation. Crime record of accused will be searched. Areas which were targeted by the accused during vehicle-lifting will be investigated.
