Bhilai Steel Plant CEO removed, two senior officials suspended

TAKING serious cognizance of the major fire mishap in Bhilai Steel Plant that has claimed 12 lives so far, Union Steel Minister, Chaudhary Birender Singh removed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bhilai Steel Plant M Ravi with immediate effect and also suspended two senior officials General Manager (Safety) T Pandiaraja and Deputy General Manager (EMD), Naveen Kumar.


The Union Steel Minister on Wednesday morning after visiting the injured employees of the plant at the JLN Hospital, Sector-9, informed about this action to the media persons. He accepted that it is a major flaw and as per the reports of the four-member high-level committee constituted by SAIL to probe the incident punitive measures would be initiated on those found guilty.


As Code of Conduct has been enforced on October 6 due to the forthcoming Assembly Election, Union Steel Minister, Singh, after taking permission from Election Commission, also announced compensation for the deceased and injured employees of BSP.


He said that the family members of the deceased will be given salary that was given to the deceased till his retirement date or if the family wants one member can be given appointment in BSP. Also the deceased family members will be given compensation of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 95 lakh as per the rule.


Those employees who sustained serious injuries will be given Rs 15 lakh and with less injures will be given Rs 2 lakh as compensation. Along with this, those employees who are unfit to work or are not willing to continue their job due to some medical reasons their descendent will get job in BSP. Here it needs to be mentioned that earlier the deceased employees used to get a compensation of Rs 25 lakh that has been raised to Rs 30 lakh while the compensation to the injured was Rs 10 lakh which has been raised to Rs 15 lakh.  During his visit to the hospital, Union Steel Minister interacted with the patients admitted in the Burn Unit of JLN Hospital.

 


 

Dr A K Rath gets additional charge as CEO-BSP

NEW CEO of Bhilai Steel Plant is likely to take charge in a day or two. Dr Arun Kumar Rath, CEO, Durgapur Steel Plant has been given additional charge as the new CEO of BSP till the SAIL finalizes a full time CEO.It needs a mention that while taking serious cognizance of the major fire mishap of BSP, Union Steel Minister, Chaudhary Birender Singh removed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bhilai Steel Plant, M Ravi with immediate effect.


The Union Steel Minister on Wednesday morning after visiting the injured employees of the plant at the JLN Hospital, Sector-9 informed about this action while talking to the media persons. Birendra Singh further stated that the announcement of the new CEO will be made by late evening on Wednesday but the official orders were yet to come till filing of this report.
