“The Government bodies are toiling hard to give best results with limited resources, especially, in the field of games and sports. But, of course, it’s a bitter truth that majority of the players, who represented India from Madhya Pradesh in different international-level sports tournaments during last few years, belonged to private institutes. But, we are trying to improve the scenario and hopefully, get positive results soon, said the District Education Officer,” Dr Ram Mohan Tiwari.

The District Education Officer, Dr Tiwari was addressing a press conference called on Thursday to inform about preparations of 64th State School-level Sports Tournament 2018 to be organised in Jabalpur between October 12 and 16, 2018. The Sports Tournament 2018 will be organised under the supervision of Collector, Chhavi Bhardwaj and will be inaugurated at Government Pandit Lajja Shankar Jha Higher Secondary School at 12.00 noon on October 12, 2018.

The tournament will be attended by around 300 student players and sports officers belonged to different Government and private schools run in 10 divisions of Madhya Pradesh.

The players will exhibit their sports talent through basketball and modern pentathlon events to be organised during the tournament. The DEO informed that the department has made sincere efforts to ensure best facilities for the student players. The basketball tournament will be held at Railway Stadium, while modern pentathlon will be organised at the campus of Gyan Ganga International School, Bhedaghat by-pass. Division-wise lodging and boarding arrangements have been made for girl and boy students separately. Dr Tiwari informed that, both the District Medical and Health Officer, Seth Govind Das District Hospital (Victoria) and Superintendent of Police have been requested to make medical and safety arrangements for the arriving students. Separate committee has been constituted to ensure better facilities so that the tournament goes on smoothly. Incharge Officer, Ghanshyam Soni and Nodal Officer, Pramod Shrivastava were also present.
