Ensuring peaceful polls is our key propriety: IG to officials

Smooth coordination between departments engaged in elections related preparations is essential to prevent of any untoward, said Durg Range Inspector General of Police (IG) G P Singh while chairing the review meeting in Balod and Rajnandgaon district on Thursday. The meeting was jointly chaired by IG Singh and Durg Commissioner Dilip Wasnikar.

Addressing the meeting, IG Singh said, “Ensuring free and fair and peaceful elections in State is our key propriety. Police and administrative officials should stay alert to give prompt response to any incident (even small incident) and take legal action.” The IG has also directed officials concerned to take out flag march in regions under their jurisdictions for instilling confidence among people that police is ready to deal with any unforeseeable situation during elections and create positive environment in the society so that people may exercise their democratic right of voting.

Besides, IG Singh has given elaborate instructions to officials regarding logistic and other arrangements for central armed forces roped in for elections’ security purpose. Moreover, the IG has also directed officials to appoint a nodal officer to look after training and briefing of sensitiveness of areas to the armed forces. Senior police officers should stay extra vigilant towards security of political bigwigs, VVIPS, VIPS, contestants and public during political gatherings, rallies and publicities in sensitive and hypersensitive areas.

Moreover, IG Singh has given specific instructions on various issues which include action on miscreants, inappropriate number plate, installation of mobile check-posts, illegal transportation of liquor and other sedatives, checking of vehicles, patrolling and other.
The meeting was attended by Superintendents of Police (SPs), Collectors and officials engaged in election related duties.
