IGNOU undertakes development activities at Kurkheda

Government of India with the objective of providing developmental linkage to the villages through educational institutions, has launched ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’ programme. Each institute has to adopt 1 or 2 villages in their vicinity and undertake various activities for the overall development of the village. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) with all India jurisdiction has adopted 81 villages across the country. IGNOU Nagpur Regional Centre has adopted Kurkheda in Gadchiroli district.

Gadchiroli is one among the 115 backward districts identified and named as ‘Aspirational Districts’ by Government of India. IGNOU Nagpur Regional Centre has undertaken various activities at Kurkheda. In association with Nutrition Society of India, Nagpur Chapter, awareness talks of experts with demonstration and exhibition of nutritious items was conducted for the tribal women at Kurkheda. Dr P Sivaswaroop, IGNOU Regional Director said that their inherent desire to improve themselves is the key for progress. Vaishali Thakare spoke on malnutrition and its dietary management.


Dr Renuka Mainde spoke on menstrual hygiene and preventing anemia. Vinita Mehata spoke on ‘Importance of nutritious diet by women’. Gauri Uikey, Coordinator, IGNOU Special Study Centre for Tribals at Kurkheda, Dr Pradeep Saudagar and Rajesh Wasnik have worked for success of the programme, informs a press release issued here.
