His wife works as a labourer to make both ends meet

IN A heart-rending incident, an unemployed man killed his two children by throwing them in a well situated in a ground behind Madhavan Nagari at Waghdhara in MIDC area on Thursday.

Frequent quarrels with his wife Sarita allegedly over an extra-marital affair is said to be the reason for Santosh Laxman Meshram (31) taking the gruesome step.
Fire Brigade personnel fished out bodies of Harsh (6) and Prince (4) in the evening. After the ‘Panchnama’, police sent the bodies to Government Medical College & Hospital for post-mortem.

A resident of Rajiv Nagar, Hingna Road, Meshram was a drunkard. An unemployed, he often used to quarrel with Sarita suspecting her fidelity. Sarita started working as a labourer to make both ends meet.
As Meshram rarely stayed at home during day time, Sarita used to drop Harsh and Prince at her sister Ranjana’s house before going to work.

As Sarita started avoiding him because of his habits, Meshram was highly disturbed.
Around 12.30 pm, he took Harsh and Prince with him from his sister-in-law’s house and threw them into the well one by one.

When Sarita returned in the evening, she was shocked to find her sons missing. Ranjana told her that Meshram had taken Harsh and Prince with him in the afternoon. When Sarita and Ranjana asked Meshram about the children, he started giving evasive replies.

One of the residents in the locality told Sarita that he was seen with Harsh and Prince near the well. Suspecting that her husband had done something to her children, Sarita informed the police. Staff from MIDC Police Station led by Senior Inspector Bharat Kshirsagar arrived and detained Meshram. During questioning, Meshram spilled the beans.

Meshram told investigators that he was highly disturbed and threw his two sons in to the well in a fit of rage.
Policemen and Fire Brigade personnel fished out the bodies. The bodies were sent for autopsy. Later, police arrested Meshram on charges under Section 302 of the IPC.
