Hybrid seeds discovered by JNAU are popular in nation, abroad: Dr Rai

The 55th Foundation Day of the Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) held in grand manners in a ceremony graced by international repute Agriculture Scientist, former Director General of Indian Council of Agriculture Research and Former Secretary, Education Department, Government of India, Dr Mangala Rai, on Monday.


Dr Dhayan Pal Singh, Member Board of Management, JNAU, Dr N L Idnani, Progressive Farmer, Om Thakur, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Dr P K Mishra graced the occasion as special guests. While Registrar, Ashok Kumar Ingle presided over the programme.


Addressing the programme Dr Mangala Rai appreciating the hard toil put up by the farmers and agriculture scientists working in research, extension and academics in development of farmers and farming. He said hybrid seeds discovered by the JNAU are popular in nation and international-level. He further emphasised on developing co-ordination between industry and farming. Optimum utilisation of natural resources like water, rainwater harvesting and ensuring multiple use of water, conservation, preservation, storage and participation.


Earlier, in his welcome address Vice-Chancellor, Professor P K Bisen apprise about different achievements and developments being made by scientists and students in past one year. He said that JNAU in past one years had attained various success and got four new colleges including two Horticulture and two Agriculture colleges. For these 377 new posts have been created while got 610 acre of land and 360 crore projects along with a Food Science and Technology Institute.


In the programme chief guest, Professor Mangla Rai along with other dignitaries honoured eminent Agriculture Scientists and Achievers of various remarkable achievements of national and international repute. On this occasion former Dean Dr C B Singh and former JNAU Director Extension, Dr Rafi Alam Khan were honoured with the Life Time Achievement Award.  At the end of the programme Registrar Ashok Kumar proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Amit Sharma convened the programme.


Eminent those who were present include DRS, Dr Dhirendra Khare, DES, Dr (Mrs) Om Gupta, Director Farm, Dr Sharad Tiwari, Director Instructions, Dr SD Upadhyay, Dean College of Agricultural Engineering, Dr R K Nema, Dean College of Agriculture, Dr R M Sahu, Dean Student Welfare, Dr Y K Pyasi, Dr Rajesh Pachori along with progressive farmers, officers, employees, students were present in large numbers.

Three tribal women progressive farmers honoured
Three Tribal Women Progressive Farmers were honoured including Rekha Pandra of Shahpura, Vabihav Dhurve of Betul and Pappi Bai Singh of Shahdol. The Traditional Progressive Farmer Award given to the Manohar Patidar of Bhopal, Rakesh Singh Baskshi and Vishal Patel of Balaghat.

JNAU officials, employees honoured for outstanding contribution
Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) eminent officials and employees honoured for their outstanding contribution and services includes Chief Medical Officer, Dr Alka Nayak, Retd PRO of JNAU, Saradar Ali Kadri, Best Poster and Exhibition Award given to teams of KVK Damoh and Katni. Besides this, Retd Professor of University (78) Dr R P Pandey and Dr J P Tiwari were honoured for winning Medals in Masters Olympiad in Malaysia.

Exhibition organised to mark National Seed Day
In the morning the guests attending the programme visited the farms of JNAU and inspected ongoing Research Works in different laboratories of the University. An exhibition was also organised to mark the National Seed Day.
