Around Rs 3.5 crore seized amidst Model Code of Conduct

Subrat Sahoo, Chief Election Officer, Chhattisgarh, while addressing the mediapersons disclosed that since the imposition of Model Code of Conduct after announcement of dates from Assembly Elections-2018 in Chhattisgarh, various government departments have made a total seizure of Rs 3.5 crore approximately in State.

The CEO said that altogether 2,468 sector magistrates, 318 flying squads and 374 Static Surveillance teams are working in 2,468 sectors during the Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections-2018. The CEO while giving information regarding the seizures made by various departments and election teams, said that a total seizure to Rs 3,49,79,861 has been made till October 20, 2018.

Accordingly, the Police Department during checking of vehicles and otherwise, have seized cash worth Rs 1,49,73,639. Similarly, during this period the Income Tax Department has seized cash worth Rs 46,50,000. Hence total cash amount seized during this period is whooping Rs 1,96,23,630 (Rs 1.96 crore).

During the same period, the flying squads, Static Surveillance teams and police seized 23447.23 litres of liquor worth Rs 13,99,820 while the Excise Department seized 12052.56 litres of liquor worth Rs 21,15,798. Thus these departments seized total 35499.79 litres of liquor worth Rs 35,15,618. The CEO further informed that no drugs or narcotics substances were seized during this period but precious metal worth Rs 9,000 was seized. The other items/freebies which include laptop, vehicles, cookers, saris, etc seized during this period is worth Rs 1,18,31,613.

The CEO further informed that during this period a total of 2,734 complaints of various natures were received, of which, 1,468 complaints have been resolved while resolving of 1266 complaints are under process. The cVIGIL App has started functioning from Sunday and since then 130 complaints have been received of which 114 have been resolved. Of the 16 complaints pending, investigation of five complaints has been completed while investigations in 11 are under process. The CEO Chhattisgarh further informed that the nomination process which is underway in 18 Assembly constituencies under the first phase of Chhattisgarh Assembly Election-2018, will be over on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the nomination papers will be scrutinised and candidates can withdraw their names till 3pm on October 26. Thereafter the election symbols will be allocated to the candidates.

The CEO Chhattisgarh gave a detailed explanation regarding eligibility criteria of a candidate as well as the rules and regulations a candidate has to follow while filing his nomination. He informed that a SC/ST candidate will have to deposit security deposit worth Rs 5,000 while a general candidate will have to deposit security deposit worth Rs 10,000. This amount can be paid in cash or through bank challan by the candidate. The candidate has to fill all columns mentioned in the nomination form with correct and accurate information. A candidate can file four nomination forms and also can file nomination from two Assembly constituencies.

If the candidate is contesting on a ticket of a recognised national political party or recognised state political party, then his nomination form should contain signature of at least one Proposer which in the case of others, there should be signatures of 10 proposers. The political party candidates should essentially submit Form-A and Form-B in original with signatures in ink.
