BIS raids illegal water manufacturing unit at Jaroda

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on Tuesday raided a packaged water manufacturing unit operating without license at village Jaroda.  BIS officers as Scientist Anant Sarawagi, Scientist Kaushalendra Kumar and Stenographer Smith Kumar led by BIS Raipur Chief Scientist V Gopnath raided Messers JD Products after receiving a tip-off. Raid was conducted with the assistance of Vidhan Sabha Police.

As the officials searched the facility, they discovered packaged water bottles of 1 litre each. Bottles bearing ISI marks were impounded.  Company proprietor Deepak Verma will be booked under the Sections of BIS Act 2016.
If convicted, Deepak can face up to from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh as penalty and up to 1 years imprisonment or both. Penalty will be up to 10 times the cost of confiscated stock.
It’s to be noted here that warning of stern actions in cases of misuse of ISI mark has been given time to time. The Department will continue with such raids in the future also.
