Cash worth several lakhs seized in checking drive

Vehicle checking has been intensified in State capital to prevent transportation of cash and material ahead of November 28 State Assembly elections.
There are 13 check-points made at the entrance of Bhopal district for this purpose which includes Parwaliya, Vidisha toll, Suhaya, Gunga Junapani, Katara, Unida, Sukhpura Jod, Gol Jod, Hinotia village, Ratibad Square, 11 Meel, Karond, Roshanpura, Mata Mandir, Habibganj and at Nadra Bus Stand. Women and men personnel of CRPF also deployed in this intensive checking.


Several teams comprising CSPs, SDOPs and SHOs are moving in the city and randomly checking vehicles. Some flying squad and Static Surveillance Team are also deployed to seize illegal goods and large amount of money.
On Tuesday, Hanumanganj police stopped vehicle of Rahat Indori, veteran poet, at Hamidia Road check-point while he was coming to Bhopal from Indore. He was carrying Rs 1 lakh cash. However, police did not seize the money as Indori gave proper explanation of source of money and presented relevant proof. Crowd gathered to see him
arguing with police at the check-post.Meanwhile, Hanumanganj police have seized Rs 7.5 lakh during vehicle checking drive after imposition of model code of conduct was enforced in the State; cash was recovered from two different vehicles. In the first case, police made seizure of Rs 2.5 lakh cash from Mahindra Scorpio bearing registration number MP-04 CT-5351 owned by Mohammad Saleem. When he was questioned he failed to provide the details of the cash and was detained.

In another seizure, Rs 5 lakh cash was seized from an i20 car bearing registration number MP-04 CR-7072 and Sanjay Wadhwani, who was driving the vehicle was detained. The two failed to provide reason for carrying the cash and it was considered as gained through illegal means and held illegally which were seized during vehicle checking in the wake of upcoming State Assembly elections.


A case under Section 102 of the CrPC was registered and seized Rs 7.5 lakh and electoral officer of the Bhopal Uttar State Assembly constituency was informed. Similarly, Habibganj police have seized Rs 1.74 lakh from Bolero SUV (GJ-06 KH-6254) driven by Nilesh near Arera petrol pump. Chunabhatti police along with SST team seized Rs 1.76 lakh Seized from a car (MP-04 CQ-6993) from near Kaliyasot dam. Likewise, TT Nagar police seized Rs 2.60 lakh and Rs 60,000 respectively from two cars at a check-post near Mata Mandir. Berasia police seized Rs 1.50 lakh from a car at a check-post near Berasia.
