Staff Reporter,

Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over women’s security, National Spokesperson of Indian National Congress Priyanka Chaturvedi alleged that the women are not safe in Chhattisgarh and according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), over 27,000 women are missing in last five years in the State. Addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan here, National Spokesperson Chaturvedi termed the BJP as “anti-women” government and alleged that the government has failed to provide security to the women in the state and atrocities against women have increased in the last five years in the state. The BJP government is not sensitive to resolve the crimes against women. Cases of rape are increasing at 12 per cent every year and 6 women are being raped every day in the state, she added.

Citing the multiple incidents of crimes against women and girls in the state like Jhaliyamari rape incident and Bilaspur sterilisation tragedy, Chaturvedi claimed that the BJP government failed to prevent crimes against the women occurring in the state. A police officer, who faced sexual assault charge, has been reinstated by the BJP government in Chhattisgarh that the case proved that the BJP government is not sensitive over the women’s security, pointed the Congress National Spokesperson.

One-third population of women aged between 15 and 49 years in Chhattisgarh are suffering from malnutrition while women in large number are also suffering from anaemia. Moreover, at least 3184 newborn babies have died in last six months in the state, claimed Priyanka Chaturvedi.
Over 11,000 girls are not going to school in Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh’s home district Kabirdham. The condition of roads is pathetic in Kabirdham district, claimed the Congress National Spokesperson.

Replying to a query on 30 per cent ticket distribution to women candidates in Chhattisgarh, Chaturvedi said that the party would give tickets to winning candidates this time.
Chhattisgarh Congress Media In-charge Radhika Khera, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, Dhananjay Singh Thakur, R P Singh, Kiranmayi Nayak and other leaders were present at the press conference.
