190 candidates in fray for 18 seats

One hundred and ninety candidates are in the fray for 18 assembly seats going to polls in the first phase of Assembly elections on November 12. On the last day of withdrawal of names on Friday, 31 candidates including Chhavindra Karma, Chaitram Atami, Sunita Bhaskar, Rajaram Todem Vishram Gawade and other candidates withdrew their candidature. 

In first phase, the Assembly polls will be held in Antagarh, Bhanupratappur, Kanker, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Bastar, Jagdalpur, Chitrakot, Dantewada, Bijapur, Konta, Khairagarh, Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon, Dongargaon, Khujji, Keshkal and Mohla-Manpur.

Rajnandgaon seat witnesses highest numbers of contestants in fray including incumbent Chief Minister Raman Singh. BJP candidates namely Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, Mahesh Gagda, Kedar Kashyap, Santosh Bafna, Lata Usendi, Lachchuram Kashyap, Dr Subhau Kashyap, Bheema Mandavi, Daniram Barse, Vikram Usendi, Heera Markam, Devlal Dugga, Harishankar Netam, Komal Janghel, Sarojani Banjare, Madhusudan Yadav, Kanchalmal Bhuarya and Hiren Sahu are contesting the elections in the first phase.

Congress candidates Anoop Naa (Antagarh-ST), Manoj Singh Mandavi (Bhanupratappur-ST), Shishu Pal Sori (Kanker-ST), Mohan Lal Markam (Kondagaon-ST), Chandan Kashyap (Narayanpur-ST), Lakheshwar Baghel (Bastar-ST), Rekhchand Jain (Jagdalpur), Deepak Kumar Baij (Chitrakot-ST), Devati Karma (Dantewada-ST), Vikram Shah Mandavi (Bijapur-ST)Kawasi Lakhma (Konta-ST), Karuna Shukla (Rajnandgaon), Girwar Janghel (Khairagarh), Bhuneshwar Singh Baghel (Dongargarh-SC), Daleshwar Sahu (Dongargaon), Channi Sahu (Khujji) and Indra Shah Mandavi (Mohla-Manpur-ST) are in the fray.

Seven candidates are in the fray on Dantewada Assembly seat in the Assembly polls. BJP candidate Bheema Mandavi, Congress candidate Devati Karma, CPI candidate Nandram Sodhi, BSP candidate Keshav Netam, Bharatiya Panchayat Party candidate Sudhruram Kunjam and independent candidate Jaya Kashyap are in the fray on this seat. Five candidates are contesting the election from Kondagaon seat. Eight candidates are in the fray from Keshkal seat, six candidates from Konta assembly segment. Besides, eleven candidates are in fray on Antagarh assembly seat, seven candidates in Narainpur seat, five in Bastar, twenty one in Jagdalpur, seven in Bhanupratappur, thirty in Rajnandgaon, ten in Dongargarh, seven in Bijapur, sixteen in Khujji, ten in Mohla Manpur, fifteen in Khairagarh, twelve in Dongargaon and eight in Kanker seat.

 

CEO to arrive on October 31

Chief Election Commissioner (CEO) O P Rawat will be visiting Chhattisgarh on October 31 on a 2-day tour to review the preparations for the Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections-2018. During his visit to Chhattisgarh, Rawat will be holding meetings with officials concerned and representatives of political parties.

As per his schedule, Rawat will be reaching Raipur by a regular flight on October 31 at 8.10 pm from New Delhi. On November 1, he will be meeting with the representatives of various political parties between 9.30 am to 11 am. Thereafter, the CEO will be holding marathon meetings with District Electoral Officers, District Superintendents of Police, Range IGs and DIGs as well as officials from Income Tax, Excise, Transport, Commercial Tax, Railways, Aviation, Central Armed Police Force and nodal officials from state police and review the preparations for holding free and fair elections. 

Later in the evening, the Chief Election Commissioner will be holding meeting Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Principal Secretaries and Secretaries of Home, Finance, Excise, Commercial Tax and Transport departments. Thereafter, he will be addressing media-persons. Later he will leave for New Delhi by regular flight at 8 am from Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur.
