89 per cent voting in DBA polls

Members of District Bar Association (DBA) came out in large numbers to elect their new executive committee for next two years. Out of 3,905 members, as many as 3290 exercised their voting right on Friday in this hotly contested elections. On voting day, the personal warmth between all contesting candidates pleased DBA members.

Now the counting of votes will be held on Saturday at Nyay Mandir premises and results are expected by afternoon. The four-member election committee headed by veteran lawyer Adv K B Ambilwade, Adv P K Mishra, Adv Shailesh Gadhia and Adv Abdul Bashir ensured a strict discipline during the day-long voting. The contesting candidates and their supporters greeted voters at the entrance of Nyay Mandir and made last ditch effort to woo them. The heavy turnout during the voting has increased worries of all contestants.

There is a three-cornered fight for the all important post of DBA President between Adv Uday Dable, Adv Kamal Satuja and Adv Manoj Sable. For DBA Secretary’s post, five candidates Vivek Kolte, Ranjan Deshpande, Mangesh Moon, Nitin Deshmukh and Sushil Kalyani tried their luck. In all there were 65 candidates for 17 posts including eight key office-bearers and nine executive committee members.
