KHARSIA,

SITUATION prevailing in some areas across Kharsia are making mockery of Union Government’s efforts for providing Below Poverty Line (BPL) strata better accommodation facility under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
It is hard to believe at first instance, but as the matter of fact, most of the beneficiaries are forced to live under the houses formed of tarpaulin and plastic. The worst-sufferers are the poverty-stricken people residing in ward-03 of the Purani Basti under Kharsia Municipal Council.
Some locals stated that many houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have been constructed in the pond area but real beneficiaries are still deprived of the benefit under the scheme. The residents have blamed Municipality for adopting
biased attitude.
Some of the residents alleged that their houses had not been constructed because they had refused to pay commission to the authorities concerned.
A 34-year-old man Radheshyam Shriwaas stated that maximum numbers of houses were in need to be constructed properly. Even after several promises by the local public representatives no action has been taken for the resolution of the matter and the residents are forced to live in such “Kutchcha
houses”. He further said, “There are around 250 voters in our village, and if the problem is not solved we will boycott voting in the coming elections.”
Girdhar Thakur, Kamla Rathore, Anita Sidaar, Nisha Sanwraa, Sunita Mahant, Darsabai Sawara and Sudhir Yadav are amongst the complainants asking for justice. Other than this, road construction work in the Purani Basti is also left incomplete, creating trouble for the residents. Municipal Council office bearers are not taking any appropriate action regarding the problem, the locals alleged.
