WITH Diwali festivities coming closer, demand of earthenware has increased across the region. Potters claim to have made a good profit owing to Green Diwali Campaigns being stirred across the country.

Campaign against Chinese lights is also stated to be one of the reasons for rise in sale of diyas (earthen lamps) this year. If sources are to be believed, sale of Chinese light has dropped by 30 percent, giving potters a reason to smile. In view of the ‘Festival of Light’, potters have started making diyas. They are seen full of contentment, perceiving a boom business.

Potter Hariram said, “A potter makes diyas on the potter’s wheel and then keeps in the sun to dry them up. The diyas are then cooked in fire. Finally the diyas are painted in various colours and now they are ready to sell in the market.” Potter Prakash said that they install their shops at Kusumkasa, Dallirajhara, Dondi, Bharritola and Surdongar to sell their diyas. He also claimed that demand of earthen pots wares was on rise because of upcoming Diwali festivities.

Another Potter Kishor said that almost every family makes around 1 lakh diyas in every Diwali season. “I make idols of Laxmi and Ganesha and help in the process of firing,” added Kishore’s wife Sarita.
Kishore further said that he generally sold his diyas and
idols of Lord Lakshmi and Ganesha in nearby villagers including Awratola, Kamta, Narratola, Malkunwar, Kairvahi, Salhaitola, Belargondi, Akola, Chindgaon, Marartola, Kusumtola, Avari, Limhatola, Gudum and Kuagondi.
