Thousands of passengers and their relatives move in and out of railway station, including Bhopal and Habibganj, but there is no emergency medical facility for them at all.

Railway had earlier tied up with a private hospital to provide 24x7 medical facilities at Bhopal Railway Station. As per the contract, Railway provided counter space, water, electricity and other few facilities to the hospital for treating emergency patient on the spot. But the contract could be continued only for 45 days. After that hospital management denied to provide the facility citing reason that number of patients are not up to expectation. At present, there is no medical facility at railway station and emergency patients are being sent to the nearby hospitals. “We tied up with a private hospital for providing medical facility to the people at Bhopal railway station but hospital discontinued the service in 45 days citing reason that number of patient are not up to the expectation. Now, we are looking for other option for providing the facility. Soon arrangement will be made to offer 24X7 medical facilities to the passengers. At present old system is continuing,” said IA Siddique, Railway spokesperson.

After witnessing frequent accidents and causality cases of passengers at railway stations for different reasons, West Central Railway started 24X7 medical clinic booth at platform no 1 of Bhopal railway station in February first week. For setting up this medical booth, railway offered tender and received application from two private hospitals. After starting the facility, Bhopal Railway Station became first station to have free medical clinic for passengers in India. Under the project, railway invited tender from medical body to set up their clinic at Bhopal railway station.

The medical body was bearing up all expenses including staff for the clinic. Railway provided free space, electricity, water and other infrastructure facilities to the clinic. All passengers travelling in the train passing through the station were allowed to avail free medical facility. Railway officials said that efforts are being made to provide the facility but hospitals are not showing their interest for nobel cause.
