State bids tearful adieu to martyred CRPF jawans

Tearful adieu was bid to four Central Reserve Police Force personnel who were martyred in a Naxal attack on Saturday between Awapalli and Murmonda on Basaguda-Tarrem Road under insurgency-hit Bijapur district, at the parade grounds of 4th Battalion, Chhattisgarh Armed Force, Mana here in the capital.


Ahead of the first phase of polling for Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections-2018, four troopers belonging to 168th Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were martyred while two others were critically injured after Maoists blew up a Bullet Proof Bunker Vehicle (BPBV) in Bijapur on Saturday.


According to police sources, the blast occurred at around 4.10 pm near a culvert close to Durga temple between Awapalli and Murmonda on Basaguda-Tarrem road in insurgency-hit Bijapur district. The spot is very close to Murmonda camp of paramilitary forces and it falls under jurisdiction of Awapalli Police Station limits. The incident occurred when a squad of six troopers belonging to 168th battalion of CRPF was mobilised for Area Domination towards Timapur from Murmonda camp in a BPBV.


Rich floral tributes were paid to the martyred CRPF troopers by Director General of Police A N Upadhyay, Secretary (Home) Amitabh Jain, DG (Anti Naxal Operations) D M Awasthi and large number of police as well as CRPF officials and troopers. The 168th Battalion troopers, who were paid tributes were ASI Mir Maithur Rehman (West Bengal), Head Constable D M Behera (Odisha), Constable C H Praveen (Andhra Pradesh) and Constable G Shrinu Kumar (Andhra Pradesh). The mortal remains of the troopers were sent to the respective home towns after the tribute ceremony. In the incident Head Constable Babu Rao Sidheshwar (Maharashtra) and Constable Hardik Suresh Kumar Parmar (Gujarat) were injured, who’re recovering from their injuries.
