BJP, Congress only contenders in Deori

Sagar’s Deori Assembly Constituency No-38 emerged as a challenge for Bharatiya Janata Party to regain its lost strength. Congress candidate Harsh Yadav succeeded in breaking the bastion of Bharatiya Janata Party by registering victory over its sitting MLA, Ratan Singh Silarpur by a huge margin of 22,080 votes in 2013 elections. Devri remained a promising seat for BJP as Ratan Singh Silarpur won 2003 elections and Dr Bhanu Rana registered victory in 2008 elections. BJP and Congress remained the two top contenders in the constituency since past three Assembly elections and there is no other party or candidate, who could influence the election results.


In the Assembly Elections 2013, total 1,34,608 out of 1,88,743 registered voters used their voting rights. Total 20 nominations were filed, five were rejected, six were withdrawn and nine candidates contested elections. Congress candidate Harsh Yadav (71,185 votes) registered victory against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Ratan Singh Silarpur (49,105 votes) by the lead of 22,080 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party’s Satnam Singh Thakur (1,859 votes), Akhil Bharatiya Gondwana Party’s Baldwan Singh (3,434 votes), Jan Nyaya Dal’s Vijendra Devalia (4,090 votes), Bharatiya Shakti Chetna Party’s Vinay Kumar Sen (1,787 votes), independent candidates Ashok Mishra (811 votes), Pawan (1,124 votes) and Hemraj Singh (1,213 votes) were the others in the fray.


In the Assembly Elections-2008, total 1,06,518 out of total 1,53,089 registered voters cast their votes. Total 20 nominations were filed, three were rejected, four were withdrawn and 13 candidates contested elections. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Dr Bhanu Rana (40,810 votes) registered victory over Congress candidate Brajbihari Pateria (29,305 votes) by the difference of 11,505 votes). Bahujan Samaj Party’s Kavita Dubey (4,432 votes), Samajwadi Party’s Lakshman (1,193 votes), Gondwana Gantantra Party’s Avadhraj Singh (8,904 votes), Gondwana Mukti Morcha’s Deependra Singh (1,149 votes), Bharatiya Jan Shakti’s Rajdhar Yadav (14,707 votes), Lok Jan Shakti Party’s Surendra Karan (824 votes), Indian Justice Party’s Santosh Vishwakarma (714 votes), independent candidates Ashok Mishra (1,178 votes), P M Badshah (1,079 votes) and Laxman Singh Lodhi (2,223 votes) were the other contestants.


In the Assembly Elections-2003, total 1,10,775 voter turnout was reported against total number of 1,57,674 voters. Total ten nominations were filed, two were rejected and eight candidates contested the elections. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Ratan Singh Silarpur (40,930 votes) defeated Congress candidate Harsh Yadav (29,559 votes) by the difference of 11,344 votes. Shiv Sena’s Mohan Singh Rajput (1,631 votes), independent candidates Avadhraj Shah Marskole (14,398 votes), Nanhe Bhai (971 votes), Raman Chaturvedi (1,495 votes) and Sunil Jain (21,084 votes).
