BJP has taken Gandhi’s message to masses: CM

Staking claim to legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said it is the Modi Government which has worked to fulfill the dreams of Father of Nation. Be it rural development or cleanliness, the Chief Minister said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken Gandhi's message to masses.

As part of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Chief Minister participated in the padyatra taken out in his South West Nagpur Assembly segment. Speaking to mediapersons, Fadnavis said Gandhi gave fillip to freedom movement by integrating it with masses. Bapu's vision of rural development, his work on cleanliness front provided a new development model for India and Modi Government has taken it forward, he added further.

Fadnavis undertook a five kilometer walk along with BJP activists starting from Gajanan Nagar, and walking through several localities of his constituency. Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Mayor Nandatai Jichkar, Sandeep Joshi, Chairman, Small Scale Industries Development Corporation and Ruling Party leader in NMC, Sudhakar Kohale, MLA, Girish Vyas, MLC, Omprakash Yadav, Chairman, Building Workers Welfare Board, and others also participated in the padyatra.

Fadnavis further stated that cleanliness campaign has succeed in changing the mindset of populace and in Maharashtra also the BJP Government has wiped out the backlog of latrines to make it open defecation free. During the four year period, our Government has constructed 60 lakh latrines whereas during last 50-years only 50 lakh latrines were constructed, while showcasing the development ushered in Maharashtra.

Through the padyatra we are taking the cleanliness message of Mahatma Gandhi further to the citizens and said it would continue throughout the year in villages and towns in State. The padyatra passed through Priyankawadi-Doctors Colony, Janata High School lane-Pragati Colony-Tambe Hospital, Wardha Road, Sai Temple, Gajanan Mandir, Buddha Vihar-Deonagar, Nehru Nagar-Kasbekar Square-Nandgudkar Layout-Rajyog-Wardha Road-Haldiram-Amar Enclave-Vrundavan-Gajanan Nagar.

Ahead of the padyatra, a group of person sang bhajans popularised by Mahatma Gandhi. Two persons namely Sarjerao Jalpat and Nishant Mishra, a software engineer, were dressed up in get-up of Mahatma Gandhi.
