Over 8,000 run in ‘Green Bhopal Clean Bhopal’ marathon

Heavy Electrical Workers Union, in collaboration with Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, organised a marathon on ‘Green Bhopal Clean Bhopal’. Over 8,000 persons participated in the event. State Minister Vishwas Sarang, inaugurating the event, said that cleanliness campaign has taken a mass movement and more such events are required to mobilise public participation. The event was organised to mark 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Addressing participants at BHEL, Mayor Alok Sharma said one needs to focus about cleanliness and city is geared up to take number one position in sanitation survey. Further, he said that it is the responsibility of all the residents to take Bhopal on number one position in clean city list from number two.

The Mayor also gave the determination of cleanliness to runners who were involved in the marathon. The importance of cleanliness in our lives cannot be denied and it is must that every citizen participates to maintain cleanliness. Runners from Bhopal, including BHEL workers students, social workers participated in the marathon. Marathon started from BMS office Starting from Mahatma Gandhi Chauraha, Gandhi Market via Piplani Petrol Pump, Foundry Gate, covering Gurudwara Chauraha. D K Thakur, Executive Director, BHEL, Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Tapan Bhowmick, Vice President of Senior Citizens Commission Vibhishan Singh, General Manager Human Resources M Essador, Deputy Commandant etc were present.

Through this marathon the aim to spread the message of greenery to every household. This has become imperative and an urgent requirement as against the over-exploitation of national resources in the name of development and as a result of desired replenishment of all the natural resources. Through the simple act of marathon message to keep fit , live healthy and keep surroundings clean.

The runners were given T-shirts and caps of Clean & Green India messages .The first 10 winners were honoured and felicitated during the event. In the program, 25 organisations including participating organisations, sports clubs, CISF, Lions Club, ex-military association, Bihar cultural council, residential association, Gandhi Vidyalaya etc participated. The people ran with the banner of the slogan written on the theme of Green India Clean India. Balloons with the message of cleanliness were also released by the runners.
