World’s biggest charkha unveiled

“Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts on truth, non-violence and peace are inspiring for all. We must all resolve to follow the teachings of Gandhiji,” said Sudhir Mungantiwar, Guardian Minister. The Minister speaking at the programme organised at Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday.


Ramdas Tadas, MP, Dr Pankaj Bhoyar, MLA, Sameer Kunawar MLA, Shailesh Nawal, Collector, Basavraj Teli, District Superintendent of Police, was present on the occasion. Mungantiwar unveiled the biggest Charkha model in world at Charkhagruh in Sevagram. The event was organised by the District Collectorate and Planning Department under Sevagram Vikas Arakhada scheme.


Addressing the gathering, the Minister said various programmes are being held to promote the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. It is a moment of pride that Wardha marked the beginning of such programmes, he further added. The district administration and Sevagram Development Plan Committee had organised Sevagram Karyanjali Utsav. Various competitions were held during the celebrations. Mungantiwar distributed prizes to winners of the competitions on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Shailesh Naval said that ‘Sevagram Karyanjali Utsav’ was conducted from September 29 to October 2.


Events such as cultural programmes, shanti daud, khadi exhibition, documentary etc were organised. Students and large number of people participated in the programmes and tried to spread the thoughts and teachings, informed the Collector.


Earlier, Mungantiwar visited various departments of the Sevagram Ashram Pratishthan. He also tried his hand on the charkha. He later visited Yatri Nivas where he inaugurated Gandhi Panorama-2018 Film Festival. The festival will screen international films based on Mahatma Gandhi.
