BJP keen to have alliance with Shiv Sena

State BJP chief rules out simultaneous polls

All legislators passed the test, claims Danve

Acknowledging that Maharashtra will not be holding Parliamentary and Assembly elections simultaneously, Raosahab Danve, State President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday predicted a clean sweep in next assembly elections. He claimed, “Party will win around 200 seats in next assembly election on its own, yet, we are willing to make an alliance with our old time friend Shiv Sena, to stop division of votes in coming elections.”

Danve was in city to review preparations of party about next Parliamentary election slated in 2019. He was on a whirlwind tour of Vidarbha to review preparations of Parliamentary elections. Danve, while interacting with mediapersons at Patrakar Bhavan on Monday said, recently, party has conducted survey of all 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra. All 122 legislators have passed the test in first round, he added while dismissing the reports about alleged failure of some legislators.

“Party is preparing, if necessary, to contest all the seats in Maharashtra to obtain majority in the next assembly elections,” Danve said. He reviewed Amravati and Ramtek Lok Sabha seats on Monday. Incidentally, both the seats were won by Shiv Sena in 2014 elections while fighting polls in alliance with BJP.

Replying to a question, Danve said, “Shiv Sena and BJP are old friends. Party is taking care of its partner in the elections. The alliance between old partners will avoid the division of votes and Narendra Modi will again be elected as Prime Minister of the country with thumping majority.”

However, the State BJP chief did not spell out seat sharing formula between both the parties and stated “We are committed to the formula decided by Shiv Sena Supremo Late Balasaheb Thackeray and Late Pramod Mahajan, whoever has maximum Legislators will get Chief Minister’s post.”

“BJP will contest next election on the issue of development and not on the issue of construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya,” Danve claimed. He said, “If Government has to enact a law for the construction of Ram Temple as suggested by RSS Chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat, then Government has to pass an act in the parliament with two thirds majority.” Over the issue of separate Statehood to Vidarbha, Danve said, the new state would be formed by political consensus only.

Danve said, BJP has formed booth level committees for 88,000 polling booths out of 92,000 in the state. The party has also appointed Vistarak for strengthening the organisation. Every booth level worker will contact 60 voters or 12 -13 families in his/her ward before and after election. We have given target to complete the voting of these voters before 10 am on voting day, he added. Dr Rajeev Potdar, President of Nagpur District BJP and Sanjay Phanje, Office Secretary of Vidarbha were also present.
