Actor-comedian Jaaved Jaaferi is gearing up to share screen space with actor Vijay Raaz in upcoming Bollywood venture Lupt. The movie, which is a supernatural horror-thriller, is all set to send chills down the spine of the audience. Jaaved Jaaferi speaking about Lupt says he will be portraying a very different role.

What was your first reaction when you were offered this role?
I was very happy when director Prabhuraj offered me this role. This character is quite different from the roles I’ve been doing. I am happy someone saw beyond my image of a comic actor.

How is this character different from the serious roles you’ve done before ?

The character I play is quite an intense one, it’s a journey of a breakdown of an egoistic man. I haven’t played such a role before.

We used to shoot all night, and that went on for almost 20 days. During the day, how much ever you want to sleep, you don’t get that sound sleep. Also, we were shooting in a dense jungle where there was no mobile network and there were sometimes sounds of animals... that was scary.

According to you, how is Lupt different from other regular horror films in Bollywood?
Lupt is not a typical horror film. Yes, it does have horror elements but its more of a supernatural thriller. It has a proper storyline and what I like about it the most is that while you watch this movie, it somehow draws you in along with it. There are no sexual or romantic elements. No gory scenes either unlike other horror films, ours is a family film.
What are the factors that you take into consideration when you say yes to a script?
There are no set factors when

I say yes to a script. If I find it interesting, something unique and different that I feel will help me grow as an actor, I look
forward to it.
Nowadays, web series have become one of the most popular platforms to work on. Have you received any offer for web series yet?

As an actor and an artist, the platform doesn’t matter to me that much. Be it web, Television or a feature film, the work has to be good. There are two web series in the pipeline about which I wouldn’t want to go into details. A lot of good work is happening on the digital medium, which is commendable.
Lupt, produced by Hanwant Khatri and Lalit Kiri, will release Nov 2.
