“IT’S people who have created boundaries for food, but food itself do not have any boundaries,” said Kunal Kapoor, acclaimed chef and one of the judges on the popular show ‘Master Chef India’ which has completed five seasons on Star Plus. He has also hosted the first travel and food show ‘The Foodie Comes to America’, shot in New York and California, discovering the journey of Indian food in the USA. Kapoor was talking in an exclusive interview with ‘The Hitavada’ at the sidelines of ‘Hungry for Haldiram’s Cooking Contest 2018’, where he was the chief judge.

“We accept Maharashtrian, South, western foods, and even Italian, Chinese cuisine. Food binds us together. We accept food which we like. Through food, we are also accepting the culture of that region. The day is not far when Indian food will also have a blend and taste of Italian, Mexican, Chinese and other countries’ cuisine,” Kapoor said.

Coming from a bankers’ family, Kapoor joined the hotel management course with his friend as he wished to do something different. But it was his interest and passion in cooking that made him a master chef.

When asked about Indian cuisine being taken over by other foreign influence, he says, “Indian food is healthy. People are making efforts to make it more presentable, either by garnishing it or serving it properly. Even now the use of isolated grains like Nachni, Barley, red rice, jowar etc is being done. So the craze of Indian cuisine will always remain the same.”

Kapoor, who has also hosted three seasons of ‘My Yellow Table’ on NDTV Good Times and ‘Pickle Nation’, ‘Fit Foodie’ and ‘Celebrating Togetherness’ on Living Foodz, is also associated with Haldiram’s Nagpur. He has also webcasted two seasons of ‘Hungry for Haldiram’s’ and expressed his delightful experience with the food brand. “Its a strong brand. Its ‘Halwai’ (sweets) section and namkeens are very good. Haldiram’s has maintained its quality,” Kapoor said.

When asked about what he loves to eat, Kapoor said his favourite dish was everything prepared by his mother. However, he disclosed a little secret that he loves vegetarian food more. Crediting his soaring popularity in a short time, Kapoor expressed that it was all affection of people. About what the future holds, Kapoor stated that he is already overwhelmed with work but does have plans to starts new restaurants, alone or with association with others.
