Staff Reporter,

“All secular political parties should come together to give a tough contest to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena in forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in State,” appealed Ajit Pawar, former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra while talking to mediapersons at Nagpur on Tuesday.

Pawar said, Congress and NCP are ready to form an alliance with other secular parties. A meeting will be held on November 2 at the official residence of Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Leader of Opposition in Assembly, at Mumbai. Congress State Unit President Ashok Chavan, NCP State Chief Jayant Patil, Vikhe Patil and Dhananjay Munde, Leader in Opposition at Council and leaders of all like minded parties have been invited for the meeting.

Replying to a question over BRP-BMS Leader Prakash Ambedkar’s stand over alliance, Pawar said, Prakash Ambedkar has forged alliance with AMIM- that is not a secular party- in a public meeting. We are still trying to form an alliance with Ambedkar in the state to avoid division of votes. However, we mentioned that the supporting parties should demand seats as per their strength in Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies. “It is necessary to accommodate each other in the coming elections to defeat BJP and Shiv Sena,” he added.

While replying to a query as to whether Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) will be part of the grand alliance, Pawar said, some parties have objection over position taken by MNS over several issues. Recently, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and MNS chief Raj Thackeray met and discussed certain issues. However, I am not aware about their discussion, he clarified.
