Staff Reporter,

EVEN after one week of its inauguration, long-awaited Multi Level Car Parking (MLCP) project is yet to become accessible for residents. The project was conceptualised with an aim to redress parking woes in main market place at heart centre of the city but lethargic working of competent agencies made it just a show piece in the name of Smart City Project. MLCP project a capacity of 87 cars was constructed with an expenditure of Rs 6.24 crore at Civic Centre, Marhatal, under the head of Smart City.

The project has coem up at one of the busiest market places where absence of parking place regularly led to traffic jams and congestion during peak hours.
Residents are eagerly waiting to start safe parking of their vehicles but competent authorities have failed in starting multilevel parking services due to careless working. Even after establishing a mega parking project, dozens of cars are parked on roadsides hindering amooth traffic flow. The agency has deployed skilled workers for operation of multilevel parking and obtained all technical clarifications but parking service is yet to start. According to senior administration officer of Smart City Limited, parking service could not be started due to absence of approval to parking charges. Right after fixation of parking charges, residents will soon get access to multilevel car parking service.

Multilevel car parking project is one of its kind in the State with advanced facilities for security, safety and uninterrupted movement of parked cars. It is second multilevel car parking project as first project was established near Manas Bhawan in Wright Town area. JMC has already started preparations to establish another multilevel car parking project near Bhanwartal Garden for better parking services for residents.
