Sagar’s Rehli: Gopal Bhargava, a challenge for Cong

Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) senior leader Gopal Bhargava emerged as a challenge for Congress Party to register victory in Sagar’s Rehli Assembly Constituency No-39. Along with the changing candidature of Congress Party victory margin of Gopal Bhargava was simultaneously increased in previous three elections. Congress’ candidates Brajbihari Pateria, Jeevan Patel and Avdhesh Hazari faced defeat against Bhargava by a long margin of votes but failed in reducing difference of votes. Rehli is the biggest constituency in Sagar district with maximum number of above 2.12 lakh voters.


In the Assembly Elections – 2013, a total number of 1,59,678 voters used their voting right against total 2,12,953 registered voters. Total 13 nominations were filed, two were withdrawn and 11 candidates contested elections. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gopal Bhargava (1,01,899 votes) registered a big victory against Congress’ candidate Brajbihari Pateria (50,134 votes) by a record lead of 51,765 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party’s Krishna Kumar Pandey (1,728 votes), Bharatiya Shakti Chetna Party’s Maan Singh Lodhi (1,614 votes), independent candidates Purushottam Kushwaha (419 votes), Ghanshyam Prasad Patel (808 votes), Jagat Singh (233 votes), Nitin Jain (242 votes), Preetam Singh (359 votes), Bharat Patel (880 votes) and Laxman Sen (1,362 votes).


In the Assembly Elections – 2008, total 1,28,475 out of total 1,69,545 voters casted votes. Total 16 nominations were filed, two were rejected, one was withdrawn and 13 candidates contested elections. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gopal Bhargava (71,143 votes) defeated Congress Party’s Jeevan Patel (45,536 votes) by the lead of 25,607 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party’s Akshay Sipaha (2,222 votes), Samajwadi Party’s Mahesh Patel (1,253 votes), Lok Jan Shakti Party’s Karan Kurmy (334 votes), Gondwana Gantantra Party’s Jagman Parashar (289 votes), Bharatiya Jan Shakti’s Mahesh Patel (1,138 votes), Gondwana Mukti Sena’s Vijay Singh Rajput (319 votes), independent candidates Neeraj Patel (330 votes), Palturam Patel (712 votes), Manoj Jain (1,429 votes), Rakesh Kumar Kurmy (1,470 votes) and Ramdas (2,300 votes). In the Assembly Elections – 2003, total 1,07,657 polling turnout was registered against total number of 1,41,660 voters. Total seven nominations were filed, two were rejected and five candidates contested the elections. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gopal Bhargava (60,242 votes) registered victory against Congress Party’s Avdhesh Hazari (29,396 votes) by the difference of 30,846 votes. Besides this, Bahujan Samaj Party’s Palturam Patel (14,133 votes), Samajwadi Party’s Krishna Kumar Riccharia (1,326 votes) and independent candidate Bhagwandas Moolchand Kacchi (2,560 votes).
