‘Urban bodies should develop cleanliness habit in citizens’

Minister for Urban Development and Housing Maya Singh said that there is a need to develop cleanliness habit in citizens in order to maintain standards of cleanliness in the cities of the State.


In this connection efficacious works must be carried out by the public representatives and administration staff together. Singh was addressing the concluding programme of the workshop focusing ‘Mission MP No 1 Swachh Survekshan-2019’. On this occasion, as per the result of Swachh Survekshan-2018, she honoured urban bodies, which have carried out outstanding works as per the set norms.


Maya Singh said that Madhya Pradesh has transformed dream of sanitation into reality. During the last 2 years, the 2 cities of Madhya Pradesh i.e. Indore and Bhopal have secured first and second position in the entire country. Madhya Pradesh has established its special image across the country in the matter of sanitation. She further mentioned that on the basis of these results, there is a big challenge before Madhya Pradesh ahead of 2019 survey.
Singh laid emphasis on competition between urban bodies for better performance. The Minister stated that there is a need for regular study and visit by the representatives of the urban bodies to monitor innovations, which are being carried out in the sanitation field in the urban areas of the state after preparing a calendar.


She said that garbage processing is a big challenge in urban areas. Composting is an important medium to process green trash. She stressed on need for ensuring 100 percent composting in urban bodies. While discussing about the private toilets, Maya Singh said that over 5 lakh private toilets have been constructed in the State till now.
Principal Secretary Urban Development and Housing Vivek Agrawal said that it is a remarkable thing for Madhya
Pradesh that 85 percent citizens of the State have accepted the change came from the sanitation in cities.


He further mentioned that infrastructure works should be carried out with full quality and within the stipulate time. Commissioner Urban Administration Gulshan Bamra and Public Representatives of Urban Bodies were present at the programme.


Prize Distribution Minister Maya Singh honoured representatives of Indore and Bhopal Municipal Corporations for outstanding performance at national level. Along with this, under the towns less than one lakh population, she honoured Kachrod of Ujjain division, Omkareshwar and Sanavad of Indore division.
