Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh while welcoming the initiative towards curtailing the VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.5 per litre by the Centre announced that the State Government will also reduce Rs 2.5 VAT. Thus collectively the total reduction in petrol and diesel prices will amount to Rs 5 per litre.

Welcoming the move by both the Centre and the State Government, Bharatiya Janata Party State President Dharamlal Kaushik said by initiating this step both the Central and State Government have proved that BJP is with the people. He said after curtailing Rs 2.5 per liter in prices of petrol/diesel, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had urged the states to bring down VAT on fossil fuel by another Rs 2.5, which the Chhattisgarh government brought into compliance immediately. Kaushik added that petrol/diesel prices have come down by Rs 5 in all BJP rules states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Tripura, Gujarat, etc.

The Centre and State Government were concerned about the steep hike in prices of petrol and diesel due to international causes, but despite adverse conditions, the BJP led governments understood people’s pain and acted accordingly. He said that in Chhattisgarh the prices of petrol and diesel are already lower than other states despite the prices were lowered prioritizing the interests of people. Kaushik while comparing with the UPA government, said during UPA tenure when the fuel prices registered steep hike due to international causes again, the then central government threw the ball in the court of State Governments. Despite adverse situation then also, the BJP government in Chhattisgarh had curtailed VAT to provide relief to the people.

Several times hike, one time reduction is not enough...
Rs 2.50 on diesel and petrol, after the centre cut prices by an equal amount on these petroleum products on Thursday. The total benefit of Rs 5 could be passed on to the consumers in State.
