Raipur Police to intensify helmet campaign

Raipur traffic police, which is yet to ensure cent percent compliance of helmet during driving, will soon be intensifying its campaign for usage of helmet as a move to preserve loss of precious life in road fatalities. As per data collected from Raipur traffic police, 397 road accidents involving two-wheeler were reported between January and August this. Of reported accidents, 73 were died while 279 were injured.


“In most of the cases of road accident involving two-wheeler riders, head injury emerges as key cause for deaths and it could be prevented by wearing helmet. Raipur traffic police is going to intensify its campaign to ensure strict compliance of helmet during riding,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Abhishek Verma. Usage of mobile phone while driving also emerged as a major factor for road accident, added the ASP. The officer further informed that action against 5,744 riders without helmet was carried out in the Chhattisgarh’s capital between January and September this year. Moreover, 482 cases of mobile usage during ride and negligence were reported during the corresponding time period.


Maintaining smooth flow of traffic in the city and avert road fatalities are our key priorities, claims ASP (Traffic) Verma. To ensure smooth traffic flow in the city, Raipur Traffic Police has taken action against 701 rash drivers in last nine months, 47835 cases of no parking, 20470 cases of pillion riders, 9254 cases of traffic signal violation, 846 cases of speed driving and 1108 cases of drunken driving, informed the officer.
Moreover, traffic personnel are identifying accident prone spots across the city and installing rumble strips, sign boards and median on roads, said ASP Verma.
