IN ORDER to help poor and underprivileged avail benefits of Government schemes, Governor Anandiben Patel told groups of non-government organisations and women self-help groups to extend support in taking schemes to poor and underprivileged in Balaghat on Friday.

The Governor heard experiences of women self-help groups and appreciated their work. District Panchayat President Rekha Bisen was present on the occasion. Patel told them to work for elimination of tuberculosis from the district. Treatment and cure of the dreaded ailment is possible. She said that all sections of the society should extend their support and help in treating children suffering from TB.

Sharing their experiences, women told the Governor that at first they were hesitant to go to the bank. But ever since they got connected with Livelihood Mission, they have become more confident. Now, they deposit Rs 25 in the group account every month. If need arises, the women members can take a loan from the group account on 2 per cent interest. With this, their group has become more or less a bank for them. Now, the group has a collection of a huge amount. Women of the group have started lending money to other people in village on interest.

Governor Patel viewed products prepared by Livelihood Mission women self-help groups in the district and lauded them for their efforts for employment. She told the women to work with awareness and inspire other women to become self-dependent.
