As many as 169 polling booths in seven Assembly constituencies of Raipur district have been identified as sensitive booths while three are hypersensitive. As many as 16,44,870 voters, including 8,38,964 male and 8,05,646 female and 260 third gender, will exercise their franchise in 1,847 polling booths in the district in the upcoming assembly elections slated for the second phase on November 20.


Briefing media persons on Sunday, District Electoral Officer Dr Basavaraju S said the hypersensitive polling booths have been identified in terms of polling percentage.
According to the District Collector, above 90 per cent voting was recorded in favour of a single candidate raising question mark before the credibility of the voting process. These three and the sensitive booths will be under close vigil of the flying squad, said the District Collector.


Meanwhile, in a surprising move, Section 144 has come into effect with the imposition of model Code of Conduct. However, the Model Code will not be applicable in case of gathering of people in groups. The prohibition under Section 144 is strictly for weapons, said the Collector, adding, people organising programmes and other such events will have to take permission from competent authorities. The model Code of Conduct in Chhattisgarh came into force on Saturday with the announcement of assembly polls schedules in five states.


Following the announcement of poll schedules in states including Chhattisgarh which is going to witness elections in two phases, Chief Electoral Officer has directed district election officers to ensure strict compliance of model Code of Conduct. The Section 144 is imposed in all block headquarters including Raipur, said the District Collector. There will be 22 Static Surveillance teams on election duty.

Voting will be held on November 20 and counting will be done on December 11. Elaborate security will be ensured for polling, said the officer.


Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers have been appointed for Seven Assembly Constituencies of the district. Pink booth will be set up in every Assembly constituencies.
