Communal tension upsets peace of Capital

Raipur police, which is on high alert mode after enforcement of Model Code of Conduct in Chhattisgarh, faced tough time after a communal tension got ignited between two communities in the state capital during a procession on Sunday.

The incident which kept the entire rank and file of Raipur police on tenterhook, took place during the morning hours in Birgaon locality falling under the limits of Urla police station.
A clash leading to tension in the area broke out between communities over minor issue when procession reached Gazinagar area. The clash leaves people from both the sides injured and damaged few vehicles.

After being alerted about the incident, senior police officials including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amresh Mishra, Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Praful Kumar Thakur, Sub Divisional Magistrate Sandeep Agrawal and other senior officials accompanied by large number of police rushed to the spot to control the situation.
To pacify the situation and bring it under control, police resorted to mild force, police informed, elaborating that a few people from both the sides have suffered injuries in the incident.

Police further informed that strong posse of around 500 personnel have been deployed in the area to deal with any untoward.

“The situation is under control and police forces have been deployed to maintain law and order situation,” a police official said. In connection with the incident, police registered a case under section 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506B (criminal intimidation) of IPC and started probe, police said.
