Hands over the ornaments to Income Tax Department

Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized 4.4 kg of gold ornaments from a passenger travelling in Mumbai-Nagpur Duronto Express on Sunday.

The train arrived on Platform No. 8 of the railway station at 8.05 am. Acting on a tip-off, the CIB team entered the S-4 coach and caught a passenger carrying a bag suspiciously. The staff opened the bag and was shocked after seeing gold ornaments in it. As the man was not carrying any bill in support of the haul, he was taken to the RPF post for questioning by RPF officials. The man told the officials that he carried the bag from Kalwa Devi area of Mumbai. The ornaments are pertaining to city jewellers including a high-profile jeweller of Gandhibag, said a RPF official.

Sources informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the bag was containing a total of 11 jewellery boxes. The man was transporting gold from Mumbai to Nagpur regularly. After recording name and address of the man, the RPF team handed over the gold ornaments worth Rs 1.31 crore to Income Tax Department sleuths.

Under guidance of Divisional Security Commandant (DSC) of Central Railway’s Nagpur Division Jyotikumar Satija, the action was initiated by Vijay Patil, Kishore Choudhary, D D Wankhede, Nilkanth Gore, Shashikant Gajbhiye and others.
