Gunmen kill BJP State Secretary, brother in J&K

JAMMU,

UNIDENTIFIED gunmen on Thursday shot dead senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and party’s State Secretary Anil Parihar and his brother in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Jashmir.


Police said unidentified gunmen shot and killed Anil and his brother Ajit Parihar in Tapal Gali Mohalla of Kishtwar town.
In view of the mounting tension in the area, curfew has been imposed in Kishtwar town. Ajit Parihar was an employee of the State Financial Corporation.


“Anil and Ajit Parihar were shot and killed in Kishtwar town by unidentified gunmen on Thursday evening. A manhunt has been launched to trace the assassins,” the police said.


Meanwhile, Army was called out for maintenance of law and order in Kishtwar town of Jammu and Kashmir following the killings of a senior BJP leader and his brother by militants Thursday, officials said. Tension mounted in the town as residents staged protests and manhandled policemen, including senior officials, prompting the authorities to clamp prohibitory orders under CrPC Section 144. As the situation deteriorated, the Army was called out to maintain law and order, they said.
