“In a major boost to Nagpur as upcoming industrial hub, the neighbouring town, Koradi will become a centre for manufacturing of Hybrid Aeroboat,” Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced while talking to newspersons on sidelines of 11th Urban Mobility India- 2018 conclave inaugurated in city on Friday.

An agreement was inked between International Institute for Advanced Aerospace Technologies (IIAAT), St Petersburg, Russia and its Indian partner along with MahaGenco that has spared 500 acres of land adjoining Koradi lake for the project.

“The project would be set up by an Indian agency M/s Chourangi Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. (CIPL), Mumbai, with technical know how from a Russian agency. Manufacturing will start within three to four months. The production unit will create jobs in Vidarbha,” Gadkari said.

The Russian delegation met Gadkari at his Ram Nagar office. Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Mayor Nanda Jichkar and senior BJP leader and corporator Dayashankar Tiwari also were present.

“One of the finest points about the Aeroboat is, it can fly also -- upto two metres -- with the payload. Means, in case of any heavy obstacle, the Aeroboat is capable of finding its way and hence very suitable for Indian conditions,” Gadkari added.

The representatives of Russian agency featured a short film on how the Hybrid Aeroboat functions. With Inland waterways being opened for commercial traffic, these Aeroboats would be in great demand throughout the country. The Russian agency that has R&D on Hybrid Aeroboat is Skolkovo Aerospace and their Co-ordinator Sukrit Sharan could be a game changer in water transport in India.

One of the great features of the Aeroboat is, it can navigate through slushy conditions also, which for India is a great news as most of the rivers and seas are heavily polluted. The Russains pointed out that in India the Aeroboat can easily sail through 10 cm slush and it can also run besides electricity on bio-fuel like methanol. The Aeroboat has three times the speed of normal boats.

Bawankule pointed out that ample land was available adjoining Koradi lake. Before signing the agreement the Russian delegation visited and inspected the land and lake site and they gave the green signal. The Russian apart from manufacturing of Aeroboat also undertook task of giving training on running the same to Indian and locals in particular.

The Russians have expressed desire to provide services of Aeroboat during the forthcoming ‘Kumbh’ at Prayag and in Yamuna River at Agra.
