In a first, TN Governor celebrates Diwali with orphans in Raj Bhavan

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday celebrated Diwali with orphanage children for the first time in Raj Bhavan. The children went around the Raj Bhavan and played in the garden area before they were treated to a sumptuous high tea and gifts by the Governor. A total of 517 boys and girls from 12 schools were invited to Raj Bhavan to celebrate Diwali with the Governor.


They visited the Presidential Guest House, where President and other very important dignitaries stay, the Durbar Hall where swearing-in ceremonies were held, the forest areas where deers roam freely and the polo ground. The children were happy to see a large number of different varieties of deer such as blackbuck, spotted deer, among others. The arrangements were made on Governor’s instructions. Additional Chief Secretary to Governor R Rajagopal made special arrangements for the school children to enjoy the merry-go-round, giant wheel, firing balloons with the pistol at the Raj Bhavan. High tea commenced at 1730 hrs and the children were thrilled to see the Governor in their midst.


Before bidding farewell, Purohit presented a calculator and a box of sweets to children. A Raj Bhavan release said 102 students from the Sivananda Saraswathi Sevashram, 50 from Seed centre, 27 from Christ King, 25 from Guild of Service, 50 from Prema Vasam, 33 from Lord Jesus, 52 from Saranalaya Children Home, 28 from SOS children's villages of India, 50 from Sevalaya, 30 from SPASTN centre, 50 from Shri Saradha Sakthi Peetam and 20 from Aalayam centre participated in the festivities.
