Gadkari inaugurates Fab Lab

Here’S good news for those who wish to bring their innovative thoughts and ideas into reality as Vidarbha’s first Fab Lab has opened its doors for citizens. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, inaugurated the lab located at Shewalkar Gardens, opposite VNIT Gate No. 1, South Ambazari Road, on Sunday.

Prominently present were Dr Milind Atrey, Professor Mechanical Engineering, IIT Bombay; Dr Sanjay Mahajani, Professor Metallurgical Engineering, IIT Bombay; Dr Yogesh Kulkarni, Executive Director, Vigyan Ashram; Amit Bhingurde, CEO TAL Manufacturing Solutions Limited; P M Padole, Director VNIT, Nagpur; Hisashi Yamasaki, Director - OTC Daihen India; Suhas Jamre, Professor in IIT Bombay; Rajeev Panda of Raman Science Centre, Nagpur; and others. Pratik Gadkar, Mirza Asim Baig and Govind Sahasrabuddhe, the youths who developed the lab and others were also present on the occasion.

Fab Lab is a workshop equipped with TAL Brabo robot and other modern facilities where innovators can make prototype of their products. Startups, professionals, students and even amateurs can also make use of the facility. It will be a first of its kind workshop in Vidarbha .

Fab Lab is an educational outreach component of MIT’s Centre for Bits and Atoms (CBA), an extension of its research in fabrication and computation. It is a technical prototyping platform for innovation, providing stimulus to entrepreneurship.
