NMC to levy fine for spitting, littering in public spaces

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will levy spot fine on citizens for spitting or littering in public spaces and roads. Also, the acts of urinating and defecation in open space will also invite action.  Ravindra Thakre, Officiating Municipal Commissioner warned citizens to refrain from such offences while travelling on public roads.

Recently, State Government has authorised  local body to levy fine on citizens for committing such mistakes under Solid Waste Management Disposal Rules 2016. The spitting at public  spaces will invite fine of Rs 150, while for littering the fine will be of Rs 180. The fine for urinating at public places is Rs 200 and for open defecation it will be Rs 500.

Thakre also urged citizens to segregate wet and dry waste in their houses and hand over segregated waste to the sanitation workers. He also appealed citizens not to use plastic materials such as carry bags and others as per provisions of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
