Your life is a perfect reflection of your beliefs

By T G L IYER,

One thing successful people tell you is that success is not easy. They are telling the absolute truth. They are not saying that it is difficult, because really it is not. What they are saying is that it does not come naturally.

You have to think about it. If it came naturally, then everyone would be successful and it will not be such a valued treasure. The reason that it does not come naturally is because you are no longer natural! The programming and conditioning over the years has changed your nature and your natural state. In order to become natural, you have to think about it. Man is predisposed and conditioned to do things in the easiest way possible. It is ingrained in our being that it is automatic. In order for us to perform any action, we first think about it. Suppose there is a coin on the floor. You just bend over and pick it up. You won’t get down on one knee or both knees to pick it up. That is the hard way and you don’t do it.

The easiest way is not the most productive way. Remember, that if we don’t think about it, it does not control our thoughts. Instead our thoughts control us. We become the product of programming, of someone else’s thought and instead of the victor, we become the victim. Success is only possible through other people. We cannot be successful by ourselves. My coach used to say: “Success is not a condition of life but it is a state of mind.

It involves your thoughts when you strain your mind to reach a destination.” Swami Vivekananda said: “Teach yourself, teach everyone his real nature. Call upon the sleeping soul and see how it wakes. Power will come, glory will come, goodness will come, purity will come and everything that is excellent will come when the sleeping soul is raised to self-conscious activity”. Keep burning light of understanding, then no evil can touch you. Confucius once said: “A man who has a beautiful soul always does some beautiful things to say. But a man who says beautiful things does not necessarily have a beautiful soul.” The real opportunity for success lies within the person not in the job.

You can get to the top by getting to the bottom of things. All your thoughts tend to materialise in your life. You see obstacles along the route but you go forward and ultimately reach your destination. A man’s value is not measured by the years he has lived, not even the work he had done but by the character he has moulded. We have to chisel our personality like the sculptor bringing out the beautiful statue out of the rock. We are born twice; once out of the womb of the mother and the other out of ourselves. My friend used to say: “Be a good listener, talk very little at home, don’t force opinions on others, don’t try to give advice because you have given it all through life. Now is the time to think, withdraw and enjoy one’s own company. It is good to live in want; it makes you think; it makes you struggle; it makes you plan and it makes you do things”. When I was young, my neighbour was a rich man. He used to send more than enough money to the children in a Boarding School.

I envied them thought that the children will become great. Instead they cultivated bad habits. One died; the other went to the Asylum. Many parents say “I had to struggle. I will provide everything to my children so that they don’t have to struggle. But the truth is that without struggle you can gain nothing. The human mind is like a battery. It can be positive or negative. Self-confidence recharges the battery and makes it positive.

A person with a poor self-image can see how positive thinking, goal setting can work for others but not for himself. People with a poor self-image resent that others have friends, others are happy, others have money and power, status and influence. A person with a poor self-image is uncomfortable when alone. The outward appearance is a giveaway of self-image. Some keep costly cars, wear flashy clothes, use expensive perfume merely because they are wiseacre. My Boss used to say: “I love God’s mathematics i.e. joy adds and multiplies as you divide with others. Be somebody.

God does not take time to make a nobody. You get the best of others when you give the best of yourself. Marriage is the family; family is the foundation of the Country, character and a promising future”. Wise people say “Love the Lord and love thy neighbour as thyself. Enthusiasm should be a way of life because it brings results”.
